Ring Re-Vamps & Repairs
Is Revamping an Old Diamond Ring Possible? Yes, Diamonds are forever, but the settings and styles that showcase them sometimes need a refresh. Breathing new life into an old ring is possible at Lilywho.
Whether you need to repair a broken ring, have inherited a family heirloom, or bought a vintage treasure that you want to remodel, we can help. Revamping an old diamond ring or wedding band can give it a completely new lease of life.
To be fully transparent, reusing gold or platinum from an old ring to create a new one can save you some money, but it isn’t always the most economical approach. The process of casting old metal separately can incur additional costs. However, doing so allows you to retain the sentimental value of the original ring while updating its style. We can reuse any old gold, platinum, or diamonds to modernize a dated looking ring.
Please bear in mind, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. In other words, if the diamonds you have are low quality, they will remain of low quality. If the diamonds are in a marquise shape, they will stay that way. We can't put a square peg into a round hole. You’d be surprised at how often customers show us their old ring alongside pictures of their dream ring, only to find that the shapes and sizes of the diamonds in both, are completely different.
Alternatively, if your old gold or platinum isn’t of sentimental value and you don't necessarily want to reuse it in your new ring, we can scrap the gold and offer its value as a discount off the price of your new ring. This can be a more cost effective way of creating a new ring. It also gives you the option to change the metal. If your old ring was platinum and you prefer gold or vice versa, you can choose to swap over and reuse the diamonds only.
Steps to Revamping an Old Ring
-
Assessment; Let the Lilywho goldsmiths assess the old ring. We’ll check the ring’s material, gold carat, weight of the metal, diamond sizes, diamond quality, and any potential damage.
-
Choose a New Setting; A new setting can drastically change the look of a ring. If you have something in mind, show us some pictures. If not, we can make suggestions.
-
Additions: While designing your new ring, you can decide to add extra diamonds to enhance the design while still reusing your original diamond or diamonds.
-
Quote: Once you've decided on a new style, we’ll provide you with a no-obligation quote for the job.
We promise to be honest with you about what is and isn’t possible with the materials you have, before we begin any remodeling job.
Ring Repairs
Can a broken gold ring be fixed? Yes, in most cases, a broken gold or platinum ring can be soldered, cleaned, and polished to look like new again. Most gold and platinum rings, regardless of their condition, can be repaired. We offer services such as replacing broken claws, replacing missing diamonds, or fixing a ring that was cut off your finger.
Can a gold ring be resized? Yes, a gold or platinum ring can be made bigger or smaller. However, the amount it can be resized may be restricted by the setting style.
Can scratches be removed from a ring? Yes, a gold or platinum ring can be cleaned and polished to remove any surface scratches, restoring its brilliant shine. If the ring is white gold, it may also require rhodium plating to look new again. Rhodium plating is like a varnish that wears over time, but it’s a relatively simple job to have it re-plated.
